AÖB Read and Comment Project held its 2nd Term Camp Program

The Read and Comment Project 2nd Period camp was held in Osmaniye Aslantaş Youth Campground between May 24-26. During the camp process; topics in the context of reading such as reading adventure, intellectual readings were discussed by invited speakers. An introductory event was held on the first day of the camp. On the second day of the camp, mainly selected topics were covered and invited speakers made their presentations.

The program started by reading the translation of Surah Asr. Afterwards, Cevat Bal, Board Member of Anatolian Federation, Nesrin Karataş, Board Member of Ilsan-Der, and Muhammed Şamil Kılıçparlar, President of AÖB, made their greeting speeches. He thanked the participants of the Read and Comment Project for their contribution to the project and their participation in the camp. Provincial Director of Youth Services Kadir Dündar conveyed the greetings of Osmaniye Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Yusuf Çebi to the participants.

Turgay Aldemir, in his speech titled “The Process of Building with Knowledge: Reading and Action in Civil Society”, emphasized the concept of reading and shared his own experiences about the adventure of reading. Aldemir continued his speech with quotes from important writers and thinkers such as Sadettin Ökten and İbrahim Kalın. Touching on his experiences during his time in Gaza and Mecca, he concluded his speech with the following words: “The most basic concept that will emerge in intellectualism is ‘life’. Everything must meet with life so that it can come alive and exist. As the hadith says, read little but often and continuously, it should be regular. Change when you get bored and read in different fields. Apart from reading in many fields, I read novels when I get bored. Do so.”

Mahsum Aytepe in his speech; “The Power of Ideas: Multicultural Life License” in his speech. Aytepe, who especially touched upon the concept of being amazed, said, “Being amazed and admired is one of the most special talents of human beings. Trying to ask what is not asked is the greatest virtue to ask what is different. Asking what no one asks when no one asks, requires others to think about it.”

In her speech, Hale Bayırbaş made a speech titled “The Basics of Critical Reading”. Bayırbaş emphasized the importance of critical reading, what we should pay attention to in the way we access the sources, which filters we should pass the source used to know the author's world of meaning.

On the last day of the program, a fun and productive time was spent by playing a taboo game where books were at the center and the winning group was presented with book gifts. The camp program ended after a collective photo shoot.
