The first activity of the project titled “Youth Protect Nature: Green Skills,” supported by the Türkiye Ulusal Ajansı and carried out by Yeşil Umut Derneği, has started in Gaziantep.
The project, implemented in cooperation with EMU Derneği from France, Us Akademiker Plattform from Germany, and Köprü Derneği from North Macedonia, aims to direct young people toward environmental issues, raise awareness about global environmental problems, and promote resilience.
The activity began with an introductory meeting and breakfast. Afterwards, participants visited the activity areas of Bülbülzade Vakfı and Yeşil Umut Derneği to learn more about the institutions. Turgay Aldemir, President of Bülbülzade Foundation, and Mehmet Ali Eminoğlu, President of BEKAM, emphasized the responsibilities that civil society should undertake in the field of sustainable environment. Participants shared knowledge by presenting examples of good environmental practices from their own countries.
Environmental activist İbrahim Kılıç delivered a presentation titled “What Can Youth Do for Environmental Sustainability?” Following the presentation, participants’ thoughts and questions were addressed in a Q&A session. After lunch, a city tour titled “Sustainable Cities” was organized under the guidance of Hüseyin Rahmi Açıkkol, Head of the Sports Working Group of Gaziantep Kent Konseyi.
Throughout the week-long program, activities such as group discussions, project development workshops, visits to energy production and recycling centers, tree planting, and a visit to the Bülbülzade Vakfı Kurtuluş Ormanı will take place.
