A new critical study organized within the framework of Bülbülzade Foundation's book and article reviews was held on December 27th at the Foundation Center. The critique session started with a presentation by Turgay Aldemir, President of the Foundation. Aldemir emphasized that critical studies play an important role in understanding our accumulation of history, culture and civilization, and drew attention to the importance of such events in keeping social memory alive and offering different perspectives.
In the critical study, the article titled “Aleppo: The Caravan City of the Ottoman Empire” in the archives of Georgetown University in the United States, which is considered an important academic work, was discussed. The participants shed light on the historical background of Aleppo through the article. Focusing on the economic, architectural and cultural structure of Aleppo during the Ottoman period, the discussions revealed the city's central role in caravan trade, its socio-cultural richness and cosmopolitan identity in detail.
Participants included academics, historians and experts in related fields. During the meeting, in-depth discussions were held on the strategic position of Aleppo during the Ottoman Empire, as well as the trade routes and caravanserais that shaped its economic structure. The city's architectural fabric, cultural diversity and regional influences were also discussed.
